Helping Hands for Better Living community member Roman visited Mexico for the holiday season. He shared some really festive videos of the live mariachi performances that he experienced while there. What an exciting lesson for us all!

We learned about Mariachi day and how it is celebrated in Mexico and all around the world on January 21 to salute mariachi music. Mariachi is a music genre that dates to the 19th century. It is a genre of regional Mexican folk music with origins in several regions of western Mexico. In Mexico, mariachis are extremely popular at social events such as weddings and birthday parties. It is mostly associated with Mexico, but mariachi music has also become popular across many regions of Latin America and beyond, and its groups can be found in major cities in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Tasting honey is as much an art as it is a science! As part of our educational activities program, participants and staff enjoyed a neuroscience honey tasting exercise that assesses visual, olfactory, gustatory, and texture experiences. Each taste produced a unique neuroscience sensory experience, while expanding our perceptual knowledge of bees and honey! We learned that honey is a perfect source of energy that keeps our immunity strong. We celebrated with a final tasting of hot homemade southern biscuits drizzled with our favorite We enjoyed our bee and educational series so much that we created a “Bees Knees” playlist on our YouTube channel.
